Re: Question Re. Devastating Crit

I just got dev crit this morning on my wm and was very excited until I saw the damage. Crits actually seemed exactly the same, and then I realized that Dev crit is now applying magical damage in the neighborhood of base hit dmg, but as a separate entry in the combat log.

It really is fun to see the big numbers come up on the screen, but my guess is trying to incorporate it into a single attack is what led to the OP dmg we saw before so perhaps it's not very feasible to do? anyhow if it's at all possible would be cool to see it all in one hit.

As far as damage goes, it's now very reasonable, perhaps a bit too low actually considering the feat investment... But personally I'm happy to see the feat doing *something* reasonably useful as the original implementation was just awful and it's seldom fun (for me) playing on servers that don't disable vanilla dev crit.

thank you driller!

From what I could figure, dev crit was not working as a +1 multiplier, and was instead providing a multiplier to the crit damage. For example, instead of getting (x3+1=x4), you were getting (x3*(x3+1)=x12). I was regularly hitting for 1400+ on my scyther by lvl 30. So... yeah, kind of crazy.

That said, my scyther is also the squishiest thing. If I get unlucky with rolls, I die fast and easily. Plus, given how many mobs are crit immune, it honestly never felt that overpowered. Either things die, fast, or I have to run around in circles chugging crit pots and praying that the next attack roll is better. Part of that is likely poor optimization on my part, but it's also the nature of a build trying to get single-hit damage as high as possible. It was fun for a few levels, but it's lost its novelty by this point.

And while a little off topic, I also disagree with any setup where "casters [are] always the elite". There are too many fun classes that don't have much spellcasting ability to speak of. If I can just roll a lvl 40 wizard and laugh-spam time stop and IGMS (or whatever), what's the point in playing anything else? RP?

This is gonna change from the what it is now to 25% of the whatever critical damage you do when you land a dev crit.
So for example, if you land a dev crit and the damage is 100 points, you will do an additional 25.

Hello Driller!

As this is not perticularely devastating anymore, can I suggest that taking the feature would "always" add the 25% extra dmg on a crit, rather then only when you would have landed a Dev crit? Or did I misunderstand your quote?

It would give us a bit more value, and not something that wouldn't only heavily benefit builds maxing STR or having RDD i the builds.

I have no way of modifying a crit. So it's dev crit only.

On another note, I have changed it to 35%.
