Devistating Critical question

Post by Elfrogue »

I heard this was not allowed here, is this true?

Ok, just found where the forums mention that devistating crit is disabled.

A strength based half-orc weapon master with a scythe has a pretty devastating critical, imho.

Well, I guess one is about playing and winning the GAME, and one is about playing (but not necessarily "winning") the ROLE. That's the great thing about BSK's RP lite.

From reading what you've wrote I can't help but sense you haven't been online in BSK for a while now. :?

And herein lies the proof of what powerbuilding has done to the server. No longer are characters making their mark with their RP skills, it's all about who has the biggest biceps. So...congrats to the PaleMaster/Clerics and all the other idiotic cheese builds out there. Well done. And people wonder why RP on the server is going downhill and why we can't hang on to many of the great RP'ers this server has seen. It may be RP-lite, as I imagine most of the following replies will scream, but in your hurry to build chars to lvl 40 in 37 minutes, PvP/PK people just to test your uberness, running laps around the Keep killing guards and acting like jerks spoiling people's RP because you are "bored", you've turned this into an action server. Bravo.

How in the hell do you "win" at Blackstone?

So undead aren't crit immune? Thats kind of hilarious.

About powerbuilding, I like optimizing characters first and developing them through play. And I do very little PVP, so its not about owning others. Its partly cause I hate levelling in BSK, its awfully tedious. The build that lets me grind fastest and easiest for whatever character concept I had in mind wins.

About roleplaying, I like SK's RP-lite. I don't know what it was like a year ago though. Could a veteran explain how things have changed?

There are many different styles of play here on BSK, which if I’m not mistaken, was Drillers intent, to create a server for all to enjoy.

Some enjoy chatting the day away in deep rp, others love the hack and slash, and many like a nice mix of the two.
So, to reprimand the players that have a style of play different to the one you enjoy goes against the principles of BSK. There are very few rules and nerfs, and the few that exist are there to keep the peace and enjoyment or to keep balance in the game.

I would like to add my opinion as well. If one keeps their rp lite and fun one will find more of it. Not to say that a continuing story with a “seriousâ€

I tend to agree. I have watched players level one character after another because when they get to level 40 they believe there's nothing left to do. Personally I can't seem to get into playing a character who has no story.

Eric Skallagrimson, my first character here, was original at BSK but he is an archtypical norseman living towards the end of the Viking age in Europe. He has a barbarian background but is a familiar feature in the courts of Europe. His type formed the Varingian Guards who were the Byzantine Emperor's personal guard.

Foli Cren has been around other servers and has quite a history of his own, which he is more than willing to talk about. He has always been a dex based rogue who is more of a Robin Hood than anything else. The notion that while dwarves are the best craftfolk anywhere, but must be strength based is just plain silly!

Elwyn Bladesinger is also new to BSK although his parents have long histories of their own. Melia Lyonson (Mouse) and Arenor Bladesinger met on one server and were finally married on another. They are retired but Elwyn is my attempt to keep their story alive and answer the question "What if Mouse and Ari really had a red headed half elf child?" He is a ranger, not because it is a particularly good build for an arcane archer, but simply because his parents were. What else could he be? He has, of course branched out on his own.

My point in all of this, is that there are all too few opportunities to roleplay this extensive background. I sincerely hope this changes sometime soon because my characters do not live on BSK, they live in my mind and I can take them anywhere I go.

Voicing one's opinion should not be considered a "reprimand" of any sort. To lament the loss of the quality of RP this server once had is entirely my perogative, RP lite or not. I have supported the principles of BSK for years as a DM and player, and will continue to do so, so thank you...I am well versed in those. My opinion reflects my play style and the style of play the server once had. Never once did I say others were "wrong" in the way they play, I simply stated the fact that the RP has dropped considerably, and that uber-builds have affected the server in a negative fashion in regards to the RP compared to the times when RP meant more than being the toughest, cheesiest character you can find.

Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion, and as an opinion, it is neither right nor wrong. Mine included. I may not agree with the styles of "RP" some people have, but I never went as far as to call them wrong....nor did I single anyone out in presenting said opinion. Do feel free to disagree with my opinion, it won't hurt my feelings, but this has nothing to do with whether my style or yours is best, it is simply an opinion.

Thank you.
