Not sure if this is bugged, but I killed a large number of fire drakes and soldiers, and put their flames into the pillar, which showed the graphic of flames coming down from the sky - did this about 10-20 times and... nothing - no boss spawn and all characters eventually got bored and town portalled home...

Is this a bug, or do you have to get an insane number to power it - and could we have something to give feedback about how many are still needed if the latter.
