Book crafting ! ! !

Greetings people.

I had a little chat with driller today regarding this idea and he kinda likes it. I would like to hear your general thoughts and maybe your ideas regarding this topic.

Book crafting recipe in a nutshell.

1. Blank Epic Book (drop-able item)
2. Forge stones (Determines strength of the spell)
3. Crafting skill ( Determines length of the spell)

The spell wouldn't be standard a like spell that you usually get. We are aiming for a custom spells here.

Example:
Blank epic Book + 10 Blue forge stone + 100 craft weapon skill = on hit freeze ( just like frostwind but casted on a weapon)
10% chance to freeze 5d4 mobs for 5 rounds / 4 uses per day (with a cooldown limit between cast)
As you can see from this example:

-The chance to freeze a mob directly comes from the amount of forge stones you put in.
-The d4 of freeze radius comes from Forge stones divided 2 .
-The uses per day come from craft weapon skill divided by 4.

This might be overpowered epic book but it's just a math example. I would like to hear your ideas to this.

even with the cost in forgies.. seems a bit OP to me..
and needs to 100% non-transferable like a golem for sure.

It would have to be balanced. Generally I don't want to have items widely available that would negate caster classes.
That's why I suggested custom spells instead. I wanted you guys to come up with balanced spells that would be useful.

It would be even better if they were sort of BSK specific. And example, would be a book that let you cast Aildrek's Curse, the mass harm spell. But reduce to 25% of hp and possibly capped too. We want the items to be useful, not OP.

And please I wouldn't want for these books to be non-transferable.

great idea. however they would have to be non-transferable. quite frankly there are players with more forge stones than other players.

well if these become non-transferable, only a few types of build will profit from it, most likely pure wizards

Crown of Fire:
Appears as a halo of spellfire around her head and provides light equal to a daylight spell.
The crown of fire gives her damage immunity (random or dedicated dunno?)
and 5% Chance disenchanting/destorying any magical weapons that strike her (after inflicting damage, if any).
The crown of fire grants the caster spell resistance 40.
Duration: 1d4 rounds
When the spell ends, the caster/user takes some amount of damage?

Simulacrum:
Creates a exact duplicate of the caster/user for 1D4 Turns
The Simulacrum will fight by your side and has all your equipment, abilities, stats.

honestly i love the idea of simulacrum, but the crown of fire seems a tad OP and I definitely would not want something that'll destroy my magic weapon or disenchant it when I've put a costly amount of resources into getting it forged.

Suggest they should allow you to craft a "one or two uses a day" book that can be transferred, but depends on Mage spellcraft skill to make (rather than crafting skill). Then high level Wizard or sorc can create it.

Well yeah Crown of Fire is a bit OP.. i was just going though some old pen and paper source books and found the crown referenced in some Spellfire/Wild Magic sources looking for some ideas. perhaps instead disenchanting.. it could mord disjoin all enemies with in a radius or create a magic dead zone for X number of rounds/turns.

Speaking of Wild Magic.. now that could be fun stuff..lol

Simulacrum would definitely be a good one though.

This one is tricky in my opinion. Custom spells are always cool and fun, but balancing is so so difficult.
To me - biased as a caster myself - I would be very focused on it not taking away from the caster classes. BSK already seem to favor melee with the +20 ab and high magic nature against the vanilla caster DCs and vanilla damage from most spells.

I like the idea of taking a watered down spell from some of the mobs, and maybe some for ambiance / immersion. but adding stuff that resembles damage shields / immunity spells, harm etc. seems to only take away from the casters (pure and hybrid).
