Ranaax Invulnerable - wrecks spells

So, looking for slaad parts for my sorcerer. At the end of my 'outsiders' run is Ranaax. I can usually grab him with bigby but then most of my higher level spells don't work afterwards (e.g. GMS, horrid, firebrand, etc.); however, magic missile works... Just doesn't pack the same punch. This happens probably 90% of the time. Occasionally I can launch one GMS but all the rest are a dud. Once in a blue moon it seems everything works fine and Ranaax is the corpse not I. It's not spell resistance either, as GMS will launch a single missile that fizzles on impact with SR. What happens is a cast that evaporates as if you cast at an object or dead mob.

I don't see anything that would cause this. I will have to do some testing.

This sounds like the AOE bug, it can be triggered randomly by any creature that's standing in an aura / persistent AOE. Try using single-target spells (Finger Of Death, Flame Arrow, Magic Missile, etc) instead of AOE spells (Firebrand, Ice Storm, IGMS, etc). Unfortunately it's a NWN bug rather than a BSK bug so there's not much that can be done about it.

You are absolutely right. Ranaax came out and I grabbed him with bigby before he got his ring up and everything worked as it should and he went down like a sack of hammers. Next attempt he got his ring up and no dice. I guess it is a wait and see if beamdog gets it fixed. Thanks, I thought I was going crazy. :)

Somtimes dispelling the ground fixes this aswell.
