I'm playing a LG Paladin/Cleric. Collecting extortion money from Javin seems like a pretty out-of-character thing to do.

I just wanted to know - if I don't do it and just leave this quest hanging, am I missing out on cool quests further down the chain?

I don't want to limit myself for an alignment issue that probably doesn't matter (much or at all) in game.

it will just stop you from a few quests he give but won't cut you from any of the others lines.
if you easely want to change your alignment or re-adjust it one day, the beggar near the chest in town can help you.

I figured it would only hinder his quest line. But if he's got several cool ones, I probably wouldn't skip them for RP purposes.

Now, if refusing to extort opened up an alternate quest where you take Rodran down, THAT would be cool for an LG character....

I have only ever done his first quest as a matter of princible but you can if you want to continue with them and when the quest line is finished just go talk and give gold to the beggar to rbalance your good/evil standings... You may need to do this several times if you want to continue leveling in pally...
