are all the merchant shops in the starting city, or are there other places that sell stuff?

there a handful around at least, plus a few you got to find.
follow the quests, those help in giving you the way of the land, they will also push you toward where you need to go/be.

Don't listen to him... No, just kidding. Just want to add that there are a few merchants you can't find yourself (well, theoretically, you might be able to stumble over one of them), you need someone to tell you in game how to get there. And, of course, that's the best merchants...

lol oh i have been stumbling around that's for sure. i already learned how -not- to socket my items. *sighs* someday ill be able to use them again. lol. i am still very new here and i am just learning that i really need to talk to every NPC i come across. i'll figure it all out in time, but i am very happy here. Blackstone keep is awesome.
