Enormous Graphic lag with Fairie Dragon?

I have seen this before, so I never choose Fairie Dragon as my familiar. It causes enormous graphics lag. Now, I thought (don't know why) that it was local, as in it would only affect me if I had a Fairie Dragon, but yesterday I stumbled upon someone who was running along with his Fairie Dragon and I got severe graphics lag. I restarted the game, but it didn't help.

I have some (used to be awesome) decent graphics stuff on my computer (for geeks: Two Geforce GTX 980Ti in SLI), so I'm a bit confused. Is this a NWN:EE issue? Is it a local problem for me because of something in my setup? And most importantly, is there a solution?

This is an EE problem not a BSK one. There are visual overrides that fix it such as this one, but I haven't used any myself so I can't give any feedback on them.
