Skill focus, and epic skill focus, with charisma modifier should yield pretty much all bard the ability to sing and hit max craft provided they base their build around this concept.
I think the nerf is perfect, 30 skill points are far too much to just be gifted away, for the ability to craft amazing items, one must sacrifice something along the way otherwise a forger wouldnt be worth their weight in forgies.

Feeling pretty glad that I originally built my crafter to not rely on items because of exactly this scenario being likely to happen, lol.
I kind of agree with the nerf -- originally the gloves were added to appease bard players who wanted to reach 100 perform, which is awesome, but it also kinda breaks crafting. I don't know of a good middle-ground solution to that other than raising the crafting cap by 20 or so points and keeping the +30 perform gloves in. I'm not sure I'd enjoy that.
