It might be nice if there was a ring or ammy that had UMD skill on it, say UMD 30 or 25. It allows the non-rogue or non-mage PC to use scrolls or wands ... having a forgie do it might be cool too.

True, but bard also has UMD and assassin (a deadly rogue). Perhaps a ring with 10 on it and you have to wear two of them to read scrolls or use wands ... just the basics. Can one script a ,minimum intell requirement on the ring ... say intell of 13? Anyway ... it's a suggestion ...

I have to use valuable points when levelling my Rogue to get UMD, it's a class skill, giving that to other builds on an item is like having your cake and eating it. That's my opinion anyway

How bout a compromise. A UMD ring +10 that is Rogue only.

you just want to be invulnerable adding all this would break the balance and again if you want umd make a char that has it

Options do not necessarily equal power.

Any new gear made would compete with gear already available, the only problem would be if you provide so many choices that you can always put together a 'best' combination, making build choice irrelevant.
And even if you did that, its totally possible to increase the challenge of the enemies to compensate, it just gets harder to balance the higher power you go.
