Helping Kia

Post by DM_Jaydaan »

A little white wyrmling wanders away from the rest of the clutch, and ends up on the Blackstone road. The Ancient red who was entrusted to look after the clutch is looking everywhere. Seems it's not only the one is missing....

FENRIP posted this, I just copied it to its own thread. /
/had to summarize post -- stuck at work -- sorry for not going into detail or including names of others//

Although he wanted to believe the rumors, Dunabar thought them just that, rumors. He'd only seen one dragon in his life and that was a tired white in the frozen lands. Nothing like the gold dragon on his shield that was supposed to represent the greatness of the dragons from ages past.

He thought he could not trust the word of Beldin, figuring the gnome likely had received a blow to the head whole trying to build a flying machine. The other sightings, he had attributed to a shifter with a passion for pranks. But now, he had seen for himself. Dragons ... well dragonlings.

While walking through the keep he overheard a plea for help in finding baby dragons who had strayed from their caretaker. He volunteered to help and was torn between wanting to squash the rumors for good and actually finding dragons.

A group of about 6 headed out in search of the baby dragons. The first stop was to find the caretaker. She ended up being a HUGE red named Kia. It was all Dun could do to not run in terror as she spoke to her. She explained that entrusted to her were 6 hatchlings, 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 greens. Of the actual mothers, no information was gleaned but the fact that here was a live dragon filled Dun with excitement and a little trepidation.

Kia explained that she left the dragonlings with the druids of Ebonwood for safe keeping when she had to leave for a bit but a mage had taken them. It was discussed that the dragons could be protectors of the Keep or enemies and that they had to be found. While no one verified it, it seemed that Kia was interested in the former. The group heard her concerns and went to find the dragonnapped hatchlings.

Three were found rather quickly, the 2 golds and a silver. The silver was particularly aggressive to hostile creatures and was a bit hard to lead back to Kia. Thankfully there was a bard whose music they followed. The 2 greens and the other silver were a bit harder to round up but in the end they succeeded. It seemed the mage was quite powerful and had allies from other planes blocking the path of the searchers. Dun himself was felled when rushing headlong into a battle after being grieviously wounded.

They called Kia to them and she thanked them for saving the babies. On the way back to the Keep Dun thought about the day's events. He was thrilled that dragons had clearly returned to Blackstone but he had concerns.

Who was this mage that took the dragons?

Why the druids to watch over the dragonlings? They were none too friendly to the Keep's denizens in the past.

How did a gold and silver come to trust a red with their offspring?

The same could be said about the green for that matter? This all flew in the face of what he knew about dragonkind.

He convinced himself that those trying to help he-who-took-the-dragons were all evil and that proved they did the right thing but deep in the back of his mind, he wondered if saving these dragonlings was really the best thing for the Keep. Time would tell.

Wandering through the lands, Whisper came upon a rag tag group of people who seemed to be herding.... baby dragons??! What was this? The dragons could see her where the others couldnt so she followed them for a while, indeed they seemed to like her. Blending into the group, she'd appear and remove any hostile creatures to the babies, then vanish yet again. Arriving in Skara Brae, she saw that they were meeting an enormous Red Dragon named Kia who was seeking a few more wyrmlings.

Remaining on the outside of this thrown together group of babysitters, she continued forth with them scouting areas ahead and behind. On their way to the swamps it seems an evil force was intent upon stopping them.. a vile bodiless head appeared and spells flew throughout the darkness. Unable to do much save for heal the injured, she watched and guarded over those also unable to join the fracas.

They found a little green who seemed to really like her. Whisper and the green played with eachother until it led them to where a silver baby had been hiding. They chose to seek the final baby in the swamps so, herding and cajoling the darling little dragons forward. After navigating the murky maze of the swamp, they came upon the final baby at last. Summoning Kia to them, they returned the wyrmlings back into the care of the Ancient Red Dragon. Fondly kissing the little green goodbye, Whisper asked if they will be ok. Straining to hear Whisper's voice, Kia assured her that they would be.

Satisfied, Whisper returned to the keep watching over its citizens from the shadows.

One of the rag tags...

Post by Kamileon »

Shanni came across a baby dragon while hunting wolves and tipping cows... following it to Skara Brae where upon she came upon the parent. Scared the beegees out of her, the big dragon did.

After talking to the parent, she agreed to return to the Keep and try to gather a group to find the missing babies. At the Keep, she did what she could to entice others to help her and finally managed to gather a willing group. Ragtag as they may have been, they were willing to sacrifice their time and learning skills to hunt and kill, oops, accidently, but mostly find the babies to return to the parent dragon.

The finding of all the babies did prove to be quite a task, but Shanni believed it was all a good time regardless. Not knowing many of those that were in the group, she found it easy to enjoy their banter while seeking the lost ones.

When finally all were found, there was a sense of pride and accomplishment with all. The task was daunting but enjoyable with the many seasons of hunters and warriors.... and maybe a stealther or two. The parent dragon seemed to be relieved having her clutch back and then made mention of finding the ones responsible for the babies to be missing.

'Ut oh', thought Shanni. What did she get herself into? If there came to be a time to do this search of the kidnapper, she considered it might be another night of learning more of herself as well as of others.

(It was a fun night for those that missed it! Thank you, DM for a good time and fun stuff to do! )

(ps - Winter... ;D ragtag eh? Heh, I die pretty good if I say so myself!)

Sparklies and Shinies... or Items of a Dragon

Post by Kamileon »

Time passed but not so long (what is time to dragons and elves, anyway!) since the return of Kia's clutch. In Shanni's life, things memorable were rarely spoken of, but Kia and the clutch were an amazement. It still tickled Shanni (though if you knew Shanni, it would be difficult to realize such matters could) that she had enjoyed the first meeting of dragons in her very young season. Since then, Shanni had improved her skills, but knew better to tangle with anything too serious. Even minos could stomp her down if she did not keep her distance, still. So this night, Shanni used the Shadow Minions as her targets, still getting the feel of a magnificent +5 bow that a dear friend gave her and not willing to chance taunting the minos all alone.

Kia made her presence known again to Shanni. Somehow that dragon had a way to create excitement. Shanni thought about how mortified her family would be to know she had some connection to a dragon. Bowing her head in retrospect, perhaps it was not so bad a thing to be cast out and relearn the soul that truly was within. Speaking to Kia, Shanni learned that there was a matter of concern to Kia and impressed that help of others would be needed.

Heading back to the Keep to relieve the heavier things within Shanni's possession, she gathered a few willing adventurers to help. Again, to find willing adventurers to help a stranger as herself intrigued her. It matter not of their following or their seasons, but the willingness to adventure without knowing the reason entirely. But then again. One only needs mention a dragon is involved and who would not want to expeirence that adventure?

Sending them each to Skara Brae and assuring them they would see a dragon, but not to attack it unless they wished to be consumed in some way a dragon would deem it proper... or necessary, Shanni finished her own needed errand and returned to Skara Brae. Each introduced themself and the party consisted of: Galen Harn, Raiju, Niniel Fellblade, Quon Kisargi, Eldora Blackwood, Hazen, Glock Grolger and Shi'Shanni.

Kia explained of missing items and a dead mage. Shanni wondered briefly if there were only one or more to come along. Everyone knows those mages enjoy a good rally. So the group of adventurers went in hunt of two items - Diamond Dust and a Red Dragon Scale. North was the direction and of course, Shanni (much like any of the characters I have, unfortunately...) was not very good with a map. (I swear, you're never lost, it's an adventure!) But no one seemed to mind the direction Shanni began in and it was brought to her attention after a few tangles with some not usual creatures. (And all right, I admit, North towards the Dragon Cave SHOULD have told me which way to head... :X)

A few tangles here and there and it became apparent that the direction had to be wrong. (Did I mention NEVER let me read a map?) Thank goodness for portals and... then there they were up in the cold snow, heading into Bordermarch.

A search about Bordermarch soon proved to be a good thing. Eldora found the Diamond Dust and a full keg in Lagnar's. Raiju came across the Red Dragon Scale. With a few falls in the snow (that would be the crashes?) but good humor the same, Shanni called for the Dragon Kia to come to their presence again. Presenting Kia with the items and thanking her for the honor to do service, Kia was pleased enough to grant each adventurer a token of appreciation.

After others had taken their leave, Shanni went with Galen into the tavern to begin a story as promised for his help in joining the adventurers. It was the tale of meeting Kia for the first time. In their conversation, somehow Shanni felt there would be a few more adventures in her life concerning Kia. Oddly, it was an endearing thought. (I mean, really, who wouldn't want a dragon friend?)

So adventure lurks in everyone's future in one form or another, be it noticed or unnoticed. It can be full of dragons or finding a sparkly. Or one of those heavy things you need to sell to Vogon... hm.

Galen smiled. A pretty woman had called out to him, and that usually resulted in good things. He turned with a florish, and presented himself. What she ask him to do wasn't very clear, and all he got was that he was to plant himself in Skara Brea, and there would be a story at the end of it all. Galen grinned to himself as he headed for the rune portal. He did so like stories.

He got to Skara Brea first, and waited. Humming a small tuneless tune, he kicked the grass a little, and looked at the clouds. "Nice day." He thought to himself, and it was a fine day too. Clouds in the bright blue sky, puffy things that resembled anything that he would care to imangine. One of them even looked like the shadow of a dragon, extraordinarily so.

The cloud was getting bigger though, and darker and darker. Galen peered at the strange sight, as a stong gust of wind blew into him, and almost knocked him off his feet, as the cloud landed in front of him, in all its red and scaly glory.

Oh, it wasn't a cloud. It was a dragon.

Galen was stunned by this thought, and his next one was "RUN! RUN YOU FOOL!"

Sadly, the thought was not very specific, and he started sprinting in laps around the dragon, screaming as he did.

Eventually, he calmed down, and the dragon (and Shanni) explained themselves, and the quest ahead of them to him, and all the people who had volunteered, just as he did. He only got the gist of it, due to the overwhelming thought of the dragon roasting him, and chewing him slowly, enjoying the crunchy parts.

They went on with the quest. There was a little fighting, nothing much the party couldn't handle, a little of getting lost, which only showed that Shanni and maps don't get along too well, and a treasure hunt for the dragon's possesions.

After it all, the party members were each given a small box. Galen was a little disapointed with this, but he accepted that he didn't do much, and didn't really derserve a better reward.

After this, he invited Shanni into the nearby bar, and they swapped stories, while laughing and drinking. All in all, a good day, for Galen.
