Favorite areas
If you'd like, join me in listing your three favorite areas to hunt / kick ass in BSK, and why... and your least favorite ones too if you like. Might aid driller slightly in the making of BSK2 who knows. Oh i'm talking challenge wise here, not loot drops exp etc...
1: Seventh shrine. Awesome challenge to even get to the end. Gets progressively harder as you go. I think it's possible to reach the end alone with a high level mage, gonna try soon, but better prepare well and will take me a good few tries. Wont be able to beat the big fella alone though.
2: Ebonwood. Or more specifically the leader. He is my favorite opponent to date, at times when fighting him I have thought 'a dm must be controlling him here' seems sentient in his actions, has so many tricks up his sleeve, why cant all bosses be this interesting, tricksy and..smart!?
3: Mind Flayer City: Love this place because unless you have access to a certain spell or some other protection against their implosion the illithids will get you sooner or later. Was very glad when the roll 1 and die system was implemented, the Illithids were whipping boys before that and the first port of call for anyone just finishing in the wastes. Now people generally dont go down there alone.
As for worst areas, cant really think of any specifically, only that I dont like areas with only one type of opponent (not that theres many). Also I'd like to see more enemies with true sight dotted about the place, keep them shadowdancers on their toes.

Fav's
1) Circle of Stones - Who doesn't like ancient, weird, unexplained areas created by shrouded figures?
2) Tomb of Terror - Mind you, it's required to have the little waterfall out front. Otherwise, the irony of it being a tomb of terror with a cute little waterfall out front is just lost completely.
3) The Crossroads - Meh.. why not? I like paying a lot of money for silly gear.
Least Fav:
I never really enjoyed the frozen wastes or how the Mystic cave was set up. It was so.. bleh. For a forge created by the ancients and buried for eons, it was one of the easiest places to get to. Crank it up a knotch and make it an actual place of challenge instead of Newb McNewbertonville.

I don't want to save "not fav"... cause I love the desgin of the mod.
However-
In the Dark Forest... I am a little lost on some of the areas...they could be tougher (why are Gnolls or Ogreillons easier to slay than orcs?) Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy who's used to the kobold, goblin, orc, gnoll, ogre, troll, giant progression from AD&D days gone by...
SW, S, SE areas seem to be of minimal spawnage to be a challenge to characters going there.. generally 5th lvl+ . I guess because the BSK road areas are laid out very well in terms of low level challenge and dfficulty... most characters go through there first.. and then when they discover the Dark Forest areas.... those challenges are taking a step back..
Not that you have to or should design a mod to be tougher and more challenging the deeper you go.. but...
I love the Dark Forest area and its design.. just think the mobs in those 3 maps could be a bit tougher..or, the number of spawns increased a bit to make it more challenging.
Are there any kobolds on the server... anywhere? They are a great challenge in numbers...would be nice to have a quest built around kobolds..for levels 1-5... or something.

A Master role player is one who is willing and able to bend their character concept to make the game more enjoyable for all involved. To assist the DM in making the game fun, and to not sow discord. - Gary Gygax
I really liked the mines and the cloud of war treatment. I think it is because it reminded me of when I first started PnP and we did not draw maps as we went along. Getting lost was half the fun.
Some day I'll go back to the mines and take a really good tour. I stumbled across a portal there once...maybe there are more surprises.

Party on! I loved those two areas! Well... Circle of Stones were mainly for plotting, plotting, testing, plotting and finally for testing! Poor players who were my dummiesGibbo wrote:Fav's
