Duel of the Fates

Post by Gibbo »

"Sometimes the end is just the begining."

"Oh... I'm counting on it, Fatedrinker."

With that said, the black and red cloaked mage thrust his hand, which crackled with dark magics, into his fallen opponent's chest. Arcane magics swirled around his hand, phasing through the fallen one's clothing and flesh alike. The mage's eyes flared in a brilliant violet energy as he grinned devilishly to the now dead body below him. Dark magics swirled around the two figures, summoned up with the sheer willpower of the black mage.

The mage closed his eyes, and the spell began.

He felt himself swept up in a great rush, like the undertow of a river. The sensation was amazing, thrilling, and invigorating. His spell worked as he had hoped. Psychedelic colors swirled by at blinding speeds, and the rushing of energy as he shifted between the material world and his destination caused Puck to shield his eyes.

But then in a flash he stumbled into the dark, landing softly onto a cold stone floor.... he was there.

Puck's grin was that of near glee as he raised his head and lowered his arms. It appeared to be some sort of dungeon labrynith.. a suiting setting for someone as complex as the Fatedrinker.

Puck reached out his hand to the side, and as he whimmed so, his staff materialized into his grasp. This is exactly what he had hoped for... limitless possibilities.

"Lucy... I'm hooooommmmeeee!" Puck called out with a menacing laugh as he began strolling down the twisting passages of the Fatedrinker's inner sanctum.... occasionally using his magic to blast entire walls away to clear his straight path towards the center of the maze.

The sounds of destruction could be heard echoing faintly through the timeless halls of his soul. This had never happened before not even with the apprentice. In the past it had just been a quiet wait for Kretch before he was able to compose himself again.

"That cat must have followed me in somehow." He sighed and went back to waiting. "Well there is little that can be done. I'll take care of him one way or another."

With that he smiled and peered about as familiar shadows moved out into the ever changing maze of his soul to seek out the cat that had wandered in seeking a prize at the end of this maze. No bits of string would help here.

Another wall exploded inward with a large crashing sound. As the dust was about to clear and settle, the black robed mage stepped over the rubble and debris to the next chamber.

"This is interesting..." he mumbled to himself as he looked around the large chamber. The near-cavernous room was lined with large pillars of an obsidian stone. The only entrance, it seemed, in this vast chamber, was the one that Puck had made, and the only worthwhile feature was at the center of the room.

He started towards the center of the room, where light flitered down in a large illuminious shaft around a white marble pedestal. Suspended above the pedestal was what appeared to be an opened magic tome. It floated ever so gently several feet above the surface of the marble, and the pages occasionally ruffled.

Puck's eyes were fixed to this very intriguing item and approached, his sandals softly padding against the ground, and his robes skirting around his ankles as he moved. He came to a stop just before entering the shaft of light, and looked around at his surroundings. He extended his hand towards the light, and his eyes gently shut as he reached his magic force out to sense for the danger.

His violet eyes fluttered open, and he grinned, taking a bold step into the light and peered at the text of the magic tome.

"I suppose he has never had someone force their way in... no traps.. how... predictable," Puck muttered before smirking and extending his arms to embrace his newest find. Perhaps it was an account of the Fatedrinker's past. ... or his spellbook? Maybe a journal of his deepest, darkest fanta--

"PUCK!!!"

The voice roared through the entire chamber enough to make the floor shake. The black mage retracted his hands, and turned around to the makeshift entrance with a devilish grin on his face, raising his Dark Matter staff to parry an attack with a very.... very large bladed weapon. The clash of weapons made a high pitched clashing noise, and Puck looked at his opponent with an almost overjoyed expression on his face.

He had been waiting for this for a very very long time.

The sword crashed down with brutal force and the wielder of the blade pressed down with his seething rage, any other emotion would be lost on him. A huge figure wrapped in chains, the last few trailing off into the darkness, was the wielder of this blade. He appeared as if he were an over active body-builder. The most unusual feature of this being was that where a face should be there was merely a dark shadow obscuring any features that may have lurked behind it.

After the first furious blows, the giant man stepped back and laughed at Puck and eyed him over for the first time. His laughter shook the small room’s walls and seemed to take on a fierce life of its own. As he laughed he pointed back in the direction where Puck had blasted into the room. Where there was once a hole, smooth black obsidian shone in the light. With that the giant spoke again each word being shouted across the room.

“If you think you can just barge in here blasting things left and right you’re wrong Boy! You had better leave before you end up trapped in a hell of your own mind!â€

"The hands are always faster than the eye, always. I assure you that there will be no tricks."

Black magics swirled around his arms, staff, and body as he summoned up more energy. His movements became a blur as he wove more and move magics, unbounded now by physical limitations of body and laws of the real world.

Extending his staff just slightly forward, black lightning lurched forward, rolling to Puck's attacker in an attempt to slow him down. In the other hand, he summoned a black orb of destruction, tossing it lightly in front of him. The magic hissed through the gloomy air and violently exploded as the hulking swordsman approached, spewing negative energy and rubble everywhere.

Puck then jumped back another step, his robes fluttering around him, to prepare to dodge his attackers strikes. ...
