thrown weapons

according to the rule book anyway (page 134 in D&D 3.5 set) thrown weapons have str added to damage rolls. but the game doesnt seem to do this my shuriken do 1d2 damage and don't add my str to that. so i was wondering if it was even possible to add mighty to thrown weapons to fix it?
