[Thanatos]

The Beginning:

The rain poured down in sheets, soaking him to the bone. He could see his breath clouding up in front of him. For a summer night, it seemed deathly cold.

He stared across at the figure before him. This being, whose promise of power was too much for the young mage to ignore. He'd been hard to track down. It had taken nearly a century for the elf, moving from town to town, library to library, graveyard to graveyard...relentlessly pursuing not just this being, but the knowledge and power he was rumored to offer.

Now, standing before this figure, the mage felt a twinge of unease move up his spine. But he would not be denied. Silence gripped the two. And though the rain chilled him to the bone, the mage stood resilient.

Not a single word left their mouths for what seemed an eternity. Only the rain broke the silence as it crashed through the trees. The figure in front of him drew his head back slowly, revealing characteristics that distinguished him from any creature on this plane. The moonlight shone off his horns, and his dagger-like teeth were overshadowed only by his hypnotic, all-seeing eyes.

The figure motioned for the mage to speak.

In a tone of seriousness, the mage spoke. “You know what it is I seek.â€
