Spell slot?

Post by Thanatos »

I'm not sure whether this is a bug, normal, or I'm going retarded (We're going to assume it's not the last one, Nizzle). But when I have my cleric out, I fill up all the slots with spells in my book, rest, and then the outer slot on a couple spell lvls is empty again...any thoughts on this?

my cleric have the same problem...

i though might be because of buffs/items and when one rest, nwn -resets- itself back to the -normal- number for the said level... my theory...

No, this happens right when I log in. So I'll be completely unbuffed, fill the outer slots, rest, and POOF...no more outer spell...the slot's still there, just not the spell

I have exactly the same thing happen to my Wizard/crafter. At most spell levels am missing the last spell slot even though I had rested prior to my last log out or not.

I have to reselect them to memorise then rest before I move on.

I think the general explanation for this is that when you have items that give the ability (charisma, intelligence, or wisdom) bonuses that give you more spell slots, whenever you log out the 'temporary' effects of the items are taken off your character, then when you log in, all the effects are re-added to your character.

So in a sense, when you log out, your ability bonuses given to you by your items are removed so that all you're left with is the 'base' character abilities. When you log in, those bonuses from the items are recalculated and reapplied. So... the slots disappear when you log out, and are reapplied when you log back in.

At least, that's how I look at it. Does that make sense?

Yep ... my Wizard and my cleric also has problems with a number of spell slots being empty when I log back on. I just take the effort to check and mark sure my spells are as I would like them then rest. As for wisdom and intell values it don't matter. My cleric doesn't change a thing and one or two of his spell slots are always empty at log on.

I'm not talkin just when I log, this is after I rest even. I'll log on, after not having played the cleric for a few days, set spells, rest, and the outer slot is gone.

I think most of these issues can be attributed to ability modifiers. It's the same thing as your losing a lot of memorized Druid spells when shapeshifting, if you have Wis items equipped (and unless you have a large Owl's Insight to cast before shifting).

But there is something else at work, too. My Cleric(17)/COT(6)/Wiz(9) loses both his level 9 Cleric slots (but no others) each time I log him on. If I rememorize them and rest they're fine for the rest of the session. This is regardless of what spells I have memorized, and it can't possibly be an ability issue because he has exactly 19 Wis and no boosts to it whatsoever. I have played a few Clerics, Druids and Wizards on the server and I have never seen this particular problem with another character, so I'm pretty much dumbfounded.

my cleric/monk/rogue will not have her last spot spells when i log in and if i put spells in to memorized then rest to make them "active".... i will lose them again.. therefore, i can't use those spots at all (just the last ones)
