Adrigal: Assasin's Blade

Post by sphinx »

Adrigal

Adrigal was orphaned when her parents were brutally cut to pieces in front of her at 10 years old. As a young elf girl she was left with no family and nowhere to turn. She soon began to bounce around from town to town becoming intrigued with sneaking about and honing her skills, pick pocketing everything she could get her hands on in her new surroundings.
Over time she developed her skills until she was an undetectable thieving machine until one day in her twentieth year she decided to steal a precious gem from a man whom she heard had no eyes. She was so confident that she decided to steal the gem while the man was home!
Adrigal slunk in the back door without a peep. Swiftly and quietly she snuck into the man's bedroom where there was a dimly lit candle and in the flame she saw the man in a chair holding something in his hand and scrubbing it. His eyes were black sockets where eyes used to be but this didn't phase Adrigal. She thought to herself "I wonder what he is scrubbing?" but the thought passed as fast as it came and she was already opening the small chest on his table where he kept this gem. He didn't even budge as Adrigal opened the chest and grabbed the gem. She slipped it into her pouch. She made no sound whatsoever and knew she could make it out of the house when the man rose up, as if he could see all of his surroundings and said "Hello little one. Come for my gem just like all the others have you" as he pointed to the corner of the room. Suddenly the flame from candle burned so bright the entire room was lit up and Adrigal saw a wall full of skulls! Dwarf, elf, human, and gnome skulls all adorned wall and as she look back at the man, his hands were on fire with a white hot glow and in his hand was a fresh skull, just cleaned for his wall.
Adrigal panicked! She looked at the man with dismay as the man turned the candle into a fiery staff and slammed it into the ground at his feet with both hands. He began to mutter some incantations but before he could finish, Adrigal pulled a dagger from her belt and jumped up, thrusting the knife into the man's throat. The spell the man was trying to cast was halted then and there as he gargled and spat blood up, the white glow from his hands slowly fading. Adrigal looked down, her hands covered in blood, and she didn't even flinch. This was nothing new to her. This was where she always knew she would be. She would take what she wanted, and anyone who got in her way would suffer the same fate as this mage who thought he could have her skull to add to his wall.
She pulled the gem from the pouch and knew she could have all the treasure she desired if she wanted, and she would take what she desired. She clutched the gem in her hand as she snuck out of the man's house never to forget who she had become that day. If you look closely, and you catch a glimpse of this young woman, you can see that very gem dangling from her neck as a token of her first kill.
