Another example is Blue (or was it red?) Dragon Armor. I have seen one with +5 AC for sale and found one with +6 AC. I would think of that as the same thing. You can take the easy way and buy gear, but to get the best you will have to actually go kill high level creatures.........and get lucky. 8)
